The Baker's Archive

A Digital Archive for Bakers

The Baker's Archive is a project dedicated to documenting and sharing baking recipes in a structured, searchable and long-lasting format.

The idea began with an annoyance of recipes being scattered everywhere. Some live in old cookbooks, some on personal blogs, some on community websites, and many disappear entirely when websites shut down or content is removed.

A Digital Archive for Bakers

Rather than acting as just another recipe website, The Baker's Archive is designed more as a growing collection on others. This is not for new recipes for you to add to your sources list, but for a combined collection to help act as a centralised system in a consistent way.

Each recipe in the archive can include:

  • Author information (Including the current website author as well as the original recipe creator)
  • Original sources and references
  • Licensing details
  • Country and language of origin
  • Ingredients and measurements
  • Structured instructions
  • Notes and descriptions
  • Categorisation through archives and tags

This approach allows recipes to be explored not only by name, but by origin, author, ingredient, style, and baking tradition.

Built for Preservation

One of the primary goals of the project is preservation.

Recipes are a form of cultural heritage. Whether it's a traditional sourdough, a regional flatbread, a celebration cake, or a family recipe passed between generations, baking knowledge deserves to be recorded.

By storing recipes in a structured format, The Baker's Archive attempts to provide a consistent organisation while maintaining proper attribution to original authors and sources.

Powered by Odoo

The Baker's Archive is built on top of Odoo using a custom developed module specifically designed for recipe management.

The platform introduces dedicated models for archives, recipes, ingredients, and everything else. This allows recipes to be managed with significantly more details than a traditional blogging platform, while still providing an accessible browsing experience for visitors.

This also allows the project to leverage Odoo's website capabilities to provide:

  • Archive browsing
  • Tag based navigation
  • Search functionality
  • Responsive layouts
  • SEO friendly pages
  • Long term maintainability

Looking Ahead

The current platform provides the foundation, but there is still plenty to come.

Future plans include:

  • Expanding the recipe collection
  • Additional search and filtering capabilities
  • Improved recipe presentation
  • Better historical and source metadata
  • Enhanced archive management tools
  • Community contributions and collaboration opportunities

The long term goal is to create a comprehensive archive of baking recipes that is useful for home bakers, professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in the deliciousness of bread.

Follow the Journey

The Baker's Archive is an open source development. You can find it on our GitHub Page and contribute to it if you would like, or download the latest release from the Odoo App Store and use it in your own databases to start your own collections.

We are also more than happy to accept your contributions to any recipes in the archvie, whether you want to add some that you have or know about, or simply request a type of recipe you would like, You Can Do So Here.
